Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, posted a series of statements on January 13, 2026, addressing recent legislative actions and political developments.
In her first post that morning, Jayapal criticized Republican lawmakers for their approach to immigration legislation in Minnesota. She wrote, “This morning, Republicans marked up legislation solely meant to demonize immigrants in Minnesota. I introduced an amendment that says their bill can’t take effect until ICE fully cooperates with state and county-led investigations into Renee Good’s killing.” (January 13, 2026)
Later the same day, Jayapal elaborated on her proposed amendment and described the response from House Republicans: “I introduced an amendment blocking GOP legislation from taking effect until ICE fully cooperates with the state and county-led investigations into Renee Good’s killing. Rather than vote on it, House Republicans blocked our committee from even considering it. Cowards.” (January 13, 2026)
In a subsequent post that afternoon, Jayapal shifted focus to health care policy and federal legislative developments: “Last week, the House passed a three-year extension of Affordable Care Act tax credits to help millions of Americans afford health insurance. Now, Trump is saying he may veto the bill if it passes the Senate. He does not want you to have health care.” (January 13, 2026)
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
