U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, has recently used her social media platform to criticize House Republican immigration proposals and comment on the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
On January 26, 2026, Jayapal expressed concern about a proposal from House Republicans regarding deportation policies for Green Card holders. She stated, “House Republicans want to let Trump deport Green Card holders who have only been accused of a crime — no conviction needed. They want to erase due process for millions of individuals who have Constitutional Rights — just like everyone in America does.”
Later that day, she addressed developments related to hostages held in Gaza. In her post, Jayapal wrote, “I am so glad to see that the body of the last hostage held in Gaza has been returned. May this be a moment of healing for those who had loved ones kidnapped or killed on Oct 7. We must continue our push to end the killing in Gaza and ensure that Netanyahu upholds the ceasefire.” This statement comes amid ongoing international efforts to address violence and humanitarian concerns in the region.
In another message posted on January 26, Jayapal criticized former President Donald Trump and his Department of Homeland Security officials over their approach to immigration enforcement: “Trump and his DHS agents are not going after the ‘worst of the worst’. They are terrorizing families who came to this country to build a better life and have followed every rule in the process.”
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after serving previously in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965, she currently resides in Seattle. Jayapal is an alumna of Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
