U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, has used her social media platform to address issues related to SNAP benefits, health care costs, and labor negotiations for Starbucks workers.
On November 9, 2025, Jayapal posted: “Millions of hungry Americans are not getting their SNAP benefits — because of Trump and Republicans. Millions of families are worried about health care costs skyrocketing next year — because of Trump and Republicans. Democrats will keep fighting for working people.” She attributed the lack of SNAP benefits and rising health care concerns to former President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers.
Later that same day, Jayapal expressed opposition to any deal that does not extend Affordable Care Act subsidies. On November 9, 2025, she wrote: “Caving on a deal that doesn’t fix health care is, and always has been, a giant betrayal of the American people. Hold the line. Save health care. I’m a NO on anything that doesn’t extend ACA subsidies.”
On November 10, 2025, Jayapal addressed labor issues affecting Starbucks employees. She stated: “It’s time for a fair contract for Starbucks workers. I’m proud to be leading this effort with the @Labor_Caucus to call for a good-faith negotiation that delivers for workers across this country.”
Jayapal has served in Congress since 2017 after replacing Jim McDermott and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
