U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing issues related to federal funding, national security, and government spending priorities.
On March 16, 2026, Jayapal commented on the ongoing situation with Transportation Security Administration workers: “TSA is working without pay because Republicans refused to negotiate DHS funding. Democrats are working to ensure TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard get paid, but we will not give another cent to Trump’s lawless ICE & CBP without reforms. Republicans must come to the table NOW.”
The following day, March 17, she addressed broader concerns about federal budget allocations: “There’s always unlimited money for war, but never for health care, childcare, or food assistance. Our leaders’ priorities are way out of sync with what would actually help the American people.”
Later that same day, Jayapal described an exchange during a congressional hearing: “Today, I asked a State Department official if it’s in our national security interests to allow U.S. weapons to be used against civilians. The silence I got in response was deafening, and only broken when Republicans on the committee interrupted my line of questioning.”
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She succeeded Jim McDermott as representative for the district and currently resides in Seattle. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
