U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, used her social media platform on July 22, 2025, to criticize Republican actions in the House and highlight issues related to housing policy and recent legislative votes.

In a post published at 00:29 UTC, Jayapal questioned Republican motives regarding the release of files related to Jeffrey Epstein, stating: “So Republicans are so afraid of answering to why they won’t release the Epstein files that they are….shutting down the House???”

Later that day at 13:13 UTC, she addressed proposed cuts to federal housing programs and advocated for her own legislative efforts: “When we move people off the streets and into housing, they live healthier lives. As Trump and Republicans try to cut nearly $1 BILLION from housing programs, I’ll keep fighting to invest in real solutions and pass my Housing is a Human Right Act.”

At 15:36 UTC on July 22, Jayapal criticized Republican members over a recent vote she described as a betrayal: “Every single Republican who voted for the Big Bad Betrayal turned their backs on their constituents. They may think we aren’t paying attention — but the American people won’t forget this.”

Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th district since replacing Jim McDermott in Congress in 2017. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965, Jayapal currently resides in Seattle. She holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA, 1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
