U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing issues ranging from immigration policy to government funding and corporate regulation.
On September 26, 2025, Jayapal commented on the impact of former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, stating, “Immigrant workers play an essential role in our food & agriculture sectors. Trump’s attacks on immigrants of all statuses and his indiscriminate raids, kidnappings, & deportations are raising food costs. He’s making your life more expensive to advance his anti-immigrant agenda.”
Later that day, she addressed the impending threat of a government shutdown and criticized Republican leadership for their approach. On September 26, 2025, she wrote: “Congress has just four days before the government shuts down, and Republicans are refusing to do their jobs. As Trump threatens federal workers and Republicans push chaos, the truth is, they have the majority. It’s time for them to work to protect jobs and keep the gov’t funded.”
In another post on September 26, 2025, Jayapal commented on recent regulatory actions against Amazon by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), saying: “The FTC’s fine on Amazon falls far short of the systemic change we need to stop monopolies from scamming families. We need a rule, not just a reaction, to take on corporate greed. Full Monopoly Busters Caucus statement with @RepDeluzio, @RepPatRyanNY, and @RepAngieCraig:”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017; she previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
