Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has issued several statements on social media addressing environmental policy, Social Security, and humanitarian aid to Gaza.

On July 30, 2025, Jayapal criticized recent actions by the Environmental Protection Agency and its leadership: “Might as well call it the Environmental Destruction Agency because that’s all they’re doing. Denying the climate crisis and removing the government’s ability to protect our air and water. Trump and Republicans are selling us out to Big Oil billionaires.”

Later that day, she commented on remarks from a former Trump administration official regarding Social Security: “BREAKING: Trump’s Treasury Secretary just said the quiet part out loud: Republicans are trying to privatize Social Security. We cannot let them.”

Addressing humanitarian efforts in Gaza, Jayapal wrote: “From the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation to airdrops, recent efforts to get aid into Gaza have been wholly ineffective and insufficient. The United States cannot be complicit in starving Gaza. We must stop supplying the Israeli government with offensive weapons.” This post came amid ongoing international debates over U.S. military assistance to Israel and concerns about civilian access to humanitarian aid.

Jayapal was born in Chennai in 1965 and resides in Seattle. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
