U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district, voiced strong opposition to a recent agreement intended to end the Republican-led government shutdown, focusing her criticism on its failure to address ongoing health care concerns.
On November 12, 2025, Jayapal posted on her official X account: “The so-called deal to end the Republican shutdown does absolutely nothing to address the health care crisis millions of Americans are facing. I am a HELL NO.”
Later that day, she reiterated her stance and accused Republicans of prioritizing political interests over public welfare. In a post dated November 12, 2025, she wrote: “House Democrats are standing strong to save health care for the American people. Republicans are more than happy to throw their constituents under the bus if it means making Donald Trump happy. We’ll keep fighting for YOU.”
In another statement from November 12, 2025, Jayapal highlighted legislative efforts by House Democrats regarding Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits: “House Democrats are fighting for a discharge petition to extend the ACA tax credits for 3 years. We’re pushing to save health care for millions of Americans and stop premiums from doubling or tripling. Republicans should join us.”
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017 after serving in the Washington State Senate between 2014 and 2016. She was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
