U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, posted a series of tweets on July 18, 2025, addressing Republican fiscal policies and calling for transparency regarding the release of files related to Jeffrey Epstein.
In a tweet at 11:11 a.m. UTC, Jayapal criticized recent Republican budget decisions, writing: “So crazy that GOP touts a $9 billion cut to disease prevention, life-saving global health programs, public broadcasting as a ‘money-saving’ thing when they also just passed the Big Bad Betrayal Bill that increases the national debt by $5 TRILLION, just to give tax cuts to the”.
At 12:25 p.m. UTC the same day, Jayapal commented on selective information releases: “This is a sham. You can’t just pick and choose what you want to release. Release ALL the files. The American people will not be fooled with this stunt.”
She continued her remarks at 1:05 p.m. UTC regarding the so-called “Epstein files,” stating: “I don’t know what’s in the Epstein files, but Trump being so desperate to make this story go away is making me wonder: what’s he hiding? Give the American people the transparency they deserve. Release the full files.”
Jayapal was born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Before joining Congress in 2017 after replacing Jim McDermott, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
