Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, posted a series of statements on October 15, 2025, addressing issues ranging from congressional procedure to childcare costs and government negotiations.
In a post from October 15, Jayapal criticized House Speaker Mike Johnson for not swearing in Adelita Grijalva, stating, “It’s been 21 days since Adelita Grijalva won her election, yet Mike Johnson still hasn’t sworn her in. Why? Because she said she would be the 218th signature on the discharge petition to release the Epstein files. Her constituents deserve a voice in Congress. Swear her in NOW.”
Later that day, Jayapal commented on ongoing government funding negotiations, writing, “Democrats are in Washington, DC, ready to negotiate a deal to open the government. Where are the Republicans??”
She also addressed the rising cost of childcare, particularly in Seattle, and criticized Republican policies, posting, “The cost of childcare in Seattle and across this country is out of control. And with Trump and Republicans’ cuts to Head Start and food assistance, raising a family is becoming out of reach for millions of Americans. Families deserve better.”
Jayapal, who was born in Chennai, India, in 1965, has lived in Seattle for several years. She previously served in the Washington State Senate before her election to Congress. Jayapal is an alumna of Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
