U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing issues ranging from congressional proceedings to international humanitarian concerns and healthcare in her home state.

On July 28, 2025, Jayapal alleged a disruption in the legislative process by House Speaker Mike Johnson. She wrote, “Mike Johnson froze the House floor last week, effectively shutting down Congress. Why? To stop us from working to release the Epstein Files.”

Later that same day, Jayapal criticized the Israeli government’s actions in Gaza and U.S. foreign policy. She stated, “For over a year and a half, the Israeli government has repeatedly used weapons supplied by the U.S. to indiscriminately kill people in Gaza, violating American and international humanitarian laws. Now, they are using hunger as a weapon of war. As Pope Leo said, it is barbaric.”

On July 29, 2025, Jayapal addressed local healthcare issues in Washington state: “Thanks to Trump and Republicans’ Big Bad Betrayal, at least two dozen hospitals in WA are at risk of closing. These closures will affect all of us — in big cities and small rural towns.”

Jayapal’s recent posts reflect her ongoing focus on both national legislative matters and issues impacting her constituents. Before serving in Congress beginning in 2017—succeeding Jim McDermott—she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
