U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, recently posted a series of statements on her official social media account addressing issues ranging from Congressional procedure to public health and voting rights.
On October 16, 2025, Jayapal criticized Speaker Mike Johnson for not swearing in Adelita Grijalva following her election victory. In her post, she stated: “It’s been three weeks since Adelita Grijalva won her election, but Mike Johnson is refusing to swear her in — all because she would be the final signature needed on the discharge petition to release the Epstein files. He’s denying AZ-07 a voice in Congress. Swear her in now.”
Later that day, Jayapal highlighted an article by fellow Representatives Troy Carter and Fields regarding voting rights legislation as it comes before the Supreme Court. She wrote: “This is such a powerful piece from @RepTroyCarter and @RepFields on the importance of the Voting Rights Act. As the Supreme Court hears arguments on this legislation, it is so vital that we all remember WHY it was enacted.”
In another post dated October 16, 2025, Jayapal addressed rising measles cases and vaccine misinformation: “There are now over 1,500 measles cases in the US — the highest number in decades. RFK Jr.’s misinformation and lies about vaccines are going to get people killed.”
Jayapal has served as U.S. Representative for Washington’s 7th District since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017; prior to that, she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
