U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, criticized House leadership and federal immigration enforcement practices in a series of social media posts on October 14, 2025.
In her first post of the day, Jayapal addressed the ongoing government shutdown and congressional attendance, writing, “Thanks to Mike Johnson, in the past 100 days, the House of Representatives has only been in session 20 days. And now, 13 days into the Republican Shutdown, they show no interest in negotiating a deal and are ending their vacation. It’s time for the GOP to come back to work.” (October 14, 2025).
Later that day, Jayapal posted a brief message: “We know.” (October 14, 2025).
In a third post, she commented on U.S. immigration enforcement under former President Donald Trump’s administration: “This is Trump’s America. DHS and ICE can and will racially profile and detain anyone they think could potentially be an immigrant. This is not what freedom looks like.” (October 14, 2025).
Pramila Jayapal has served as the representative for Washington’s 7th district since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017. She previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Jayapal was born in Chennai, India, in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. She earned her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in 1986 and completed further studies at Northwestern University in 1990.
