U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, posted a series of statements on September 18, 2025, criticizing U.S. immigration enforcement practices and foreign policy actions involving Israel.

In a post made at 15:42 UTC, Jayapal wrote: “ICE is racially profiling and kidnapping people just for looking Latino or speaking Spanish. Trump is turning our law enforcement into his own secret police to terrorize our communities.”

Later that day at 17:19 UTC, she addressed the ongoing conflict in Gaza, stating: “The Israeli government is indiscriminately killing civilians in Gaza, using hunger as a weapon of war, & attacking other countries in the Middle East — all with U.S. taxpayer dollars. We must use our leverage to demand that they follow U.S. law & international humanitarian law.”

At 17:48 UTC on the same day, Jayapal commented on former President Donald Trump’s actions regarding political dissent: “So this was a lie. Donald Trump is literally weaponizing our government to crack down on free speech and persecute his political opponents.”

Pramila Jayapal has served as the representative for Washington’s 7th District since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in India in 1965, Jayapal resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
