U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on March 23, 2026, criticizing the involvement of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in airport security and the Trump administration’s spending priorities.
In her first post on March 23, Jayapal wrote: “Trump’s lawless ICE creates nothing but chaos and are completely untrained to conduct airport security. Democrats are ready to fund TSA without giving ICE a blank check. Republicans are blocking it. ICE needs to get the hell out of our airports NOW.”
Later that day, she shared another statement referencing the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), which represents Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents: “Read part of a statement from AFGE’s president, the union for TSA agents. ICE is not helping TSA. It is creating more unnecessary chaos and confusion.”
In a subsequent post, Jayapal addressed federal budget priorities under former President Donald Trump: “Trump wants to spend $200 billion of taxpayer money on an illegal war rather than ensuring every American has food, health care, and an education. It’s absolutely shameful.”
Pramila Jayapal has served as the U.S. Representative for Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. She previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016 and was born in Chennai in 1965 before moving to Seattle. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
