U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district, posted a series of tweets on March 19, 2026, criticizing U.S. military spending and advocating for alternative approaches to international conflict.

In her first tweet at 14:01 UTC, Jayapal stated, “Bombs are not the answer. We need to invest in the real tools at our disposal to promote peace and freedom around the world.”

Later that day, at 16:30 UTC, Jayapal criticized Republican lawmakers’ priorities regarding domestic affordability and foreign policy spending. She wrote, “Republicans don’t care that you can’t afford gas, childcare, or health care. Instead, they want $200 BILLION MORE for their illegal war with Iran. Absolutely ridiculous.”

Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
