Rep. Pramila Jayapal, U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has recently posted a series of statements on her official Twitter account addressing U.S. foreign policy and immigration enforcement.
On May 19, 2026, Jayapal commented on congressional action regarding military involvement in Iran, stating: “Good. It is time for Congress to FINALLY put a stop to this illegal war of choice in Iran.”
Later that day, she named several women who have reportedly suffered under the actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), posting: “Wendy Hernandez Reyes. Aliya Rahman. Nasra Ahmed. Destiny Jackson. Marimar Martinez. Renee Nicole Good. These are just some of the women who personally know or have experienced ICE and CBP’s cruelty. Not another cent.” This tweet was published on May 19, 2026.
On May 20, 2026, Jayapal referenced the case of a child separated from his mother due to deportation policies: “Orlin was a little boy who was killed after his mother was deported without him, despite her desperate pleas to take him with her. Thanks to Trump’s mass deportation agenda, every single community has a Wendy and an Orlin.”
Pramila Jayapal began serving in Congress after replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle; she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
