U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district, shared a series of posts on her Twitter account in early August 2025 addressing national tax policy changes and local environmental initiatives.

On August 9, Jayapal criticized former President Donald Trump for ending a federal tax filing program, stating: “ICYMI: Trump is shutting down IRS Direct File, a popular program that allowed Americans to do their taxes for free. Yet another example of Trump screwing over working people.”

The following day, she highlighted her visit to a community project in Burien, Washington: “I visited the Salmon Creek Ravine in Burien to see some of the incredible restoration work and youth engagement they’re doing! I’m thrilled to see such a successful partnership between local orgs and the City of Burien, all working to make our community greener.” This post reflected ongoing efforts by local organizations and municipal authorities to enhance green spaces and involve young people in environmental stewardship.

Later on August 10, Jayapal posted about broader political dynamics: “Trump and Republicans want us to feel hopeless and powerless — but we won’t. We will organize and fight back with every ounce of our being. Our collective power is stronger than their greed and cruelty.”

Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. Before joining Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras), India, in 1965, Jayapal currently resides in Seattle. She earned her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in 1986 and completed further studies at Northwestern University in 1990.
