Rep. Pramila Jayapal, U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has recently shared several statements on social media addressing national security, immigration policy, and community leadership.

On October 11, 2025, Jayapal criticized the use of military force in American cities under former President Donald Trump, stating: “Trump’s deployment of military troops into our cities is unlawful — and unacceptable. This is a threat to our freedoms and our democracy.”

Later that same day, she highlighted testimony from a congressional Shadow Hearing focused on the impact of deportations on families and communities: “At our most recent Shadow Hearing, we heard from five incredible witnesses who shared what the human costs of deportations on American families and communities look like. Their insights, stories, and experiences were incredibly powerful. Please listen.”

On October 12, 2025, as Hispanic Heritage Month concluded, Jayapal recognized local leader Teresa Mosqueda for her advocacy work: “As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to an end, I want to highlight an amazing leader in our community: King County Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda! CM Mosqueda is a lifelong advocate for working families, community health, and economic equity—and I’m grateful to have her as a”

Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017; she previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
