U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, published a series of posts on October 1, 2025, voicing concerns about the use of military force in American cities, the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and former President Donald Trump’s economic policies.

In her first post at 13:47 UTC, Jayapal stated: “U.S. cities are not ‘training grounds’ for the military and U.S. citizens are not the ‘enemy from within’. This is incredibly dangerous and is not what our military is trained for or meant to do. It’s authoritarianism, plain and simple.”

Later that day at 16:18 UTC, she criticized ICE agents for their treatment of journalists: “ICE is acting as a rogue agency — assaulting members of the press, one of whom even had to be carried away on a stretcher. These agents must be held accountable. This is beyond outrageous, and we cannot stand for it, normalize it, or accept it.”

At 18:27 UTC on October 1, Jayapal turned her attention to Donald Trump’s record on cost-of-living issues: “Trump promised to lower costs on day one. Instead, he is using the presidency to make himself and his billionaire buddies richer. All while stripping millions of Americans off of health care and food assistance.”

Pramila Jayapal was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Before her tenure in Congress began in 2017—when she succeeded Jim McDermott—she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
