Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has posted a series of statements on her official Twitter account addressing concerns about health care costs and the influence of individuals associated with Project 2025.
On December 30, 2025, Jayapal stated: “The architects of Trump’s Project 2025 have a history of racist comments and white supremacist views. Individuals with these bigoted beliefs have no place anywhere close to government.”
Later that day, she addressed rising health care expenses: “The Republican Premium Hike is the largest increase in health care costs many Americans will ever see. Working families simply can’t afford to pay more money for worse care. We need to extend ACA tax credits to lower costs.”
On December 31, Jayapal discussed economic challenges in an interview: “I joined Fintan O’Toole on @nybooks to discuss the state of our economy. Thanks to Trump and Republicans, millions of Americans are struggling to pay their bills, and will have to go without health care in the new year as premiums skyrocket.”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017. She previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016 and was born in Chennai in 1965 before moving to Seattle. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
