U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, voiced criticism of recent Republican immigration funding proposals in a series of posts on May 19, 2026.

Jayapal described the situation as “the height of corruption.” (May 19, 2026). In another post later that day, she stated: “Last year, Trump and Republicans gave ICE and CBP $170 BILLION — even as they cut healthcare for millions of Americans. Now they want to give ICE and CBP another $70 billion. We won’t stand for it.” (May 19, 2026). She continued her criticism by highlighting the impact on vulnerable populations: “Women and children have borne the brunt of Trump’s cruel immigration actions. And yet Republicans want to give $70 BILLION MORE to ICE and CBP. Shame on them.” (May 19, 2026).

Jayapal has served in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965, Jayapal currently resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
