U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, addressed several issues on social media in a series of posts between November 20 and November 21, 2025.
On November 20, Jayapal criticized the Trump administration’s handling of refugee admissions. She stated, “The Trump admin has an obligation to consult with Congress on refugee admissions. Today, they ignored that requirement even as they slash refugee admissions to their lowest levels in our country’s history. In another post from November 21, Jayapal paid tribute to fellow lawmaker Nydia Velázquez: “My dear friend @NydiaVelazquez has been a mentor, ready companion in Good Trouble, and incredible progressive fighter for working people, poor people and immigrants. Her legacy is tremendous! I will deeply miss her strategic mind and courage. Thank you, la luchadora! https://t.co/JspW8htF00”.
Later that same day, she commented on Republican tax policies: “Republicans are cutting taxes for the rich at the same time that they’re rewarding corporations for sending jobs overseas. They only care about their billionaire and CEO donors. It’s that simple. https://t.co/9U2sle4JJ6”.
Jayapal was born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle at age 57. She previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016 before entering Congress as Jim McDermott’s successor. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA, 1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
