Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform to address ongoing issues related to a government shutdown and immigration oversight.
On November 1, 2025, Jayapal posted: “Today marks a full month of the Republican shutdown. It’s time for them to end their vacation and get back to work for the American people.” The following day, she commented on efforts to provide oversight regarding former President Trump’s immigration policies, stating: “My shadow hearings are how we can conduct oversight on Trump’s horrifying immigration actions. We can and must continue shining a light on this lawlessness.”
Later that same day, Jayapal addressed the impact of the government shutdown on federal operations: “We are one month into the shutdown, and we are seeing delays, ground stops, and overall turmoil at airports across the country. Republicans must open the government to ensure safety and to get air traffic controllers and other federal workers their paychecks.”
Jayapal has served in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. She previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
