U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, used her social media platform on October 5, 2025, to criticize recent political developments and policies associated with former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

In a post published at 16:34 UTC, Jayapal stated: “This Republican Shutdown is Project 2025 in action. Trump is using this moment to inflict maximum pain on the American people — ripping away health care, raising costs, catering to his billionaire buddies, and ignoring our checks and balances like an authoritarian.”

Later that day at 18:14 UTC, she addressed immigration policy concerns: “Trump’s treatment of immigrants is cruel, inhumane and unacceptable. And as they pump money into ICE and for-profit detention centers it will only get worse.”

At 21:05 UTC on the same day, Jayapal expressed gratitude toward local officials and reiterated her stance against proposed cuts to health care services: “Thank you to KC Executive Shannon Braddock, Health Officer Dr. Valenciano, Bronti, Jennifer, and Krystina for joining me to stand against the Republican Shutdown and cuts to health care. I’ll be holding the line to protect our care.”

Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
