U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on March 27, 2026, addressing issues related to funding for federal agencies and immigration policy.

In her first post at 17:48 UTC, Jayapal criticized Republican lawmakers’ approach to funding for certain federal agencies. She wrote, “Republicans keep changing their minds about whether or not to finally pay TSA agents. Democrats have been consistent since day one. We want to immediately fund TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard. But we will not give a penny more to ICE and CBP, which need to be dismantled.”

Later that evening at 19:31 UTC, Jayapal commented on the issue of immigration detention with a brief statement: “Immigration detention is no place for a child.”

In a subsequent post at 21:15 UTC, she called for accountability among political figures and business leaders regarding policies affecting immigrant communities. Jayapal stated, “We not only need to hold Trump accountable for his attacks on our immigrant communities, we also need to hold every single Republican, corporate CEO, and Trump supporter accountable for being complicit and refusing to take a stand. We cannot let anyone involved off the hook for”

Pramila Jayapal has served in the U.S. Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott as representative of Washington’s 7th district; she previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
