Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has served Washington’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently made a series of statements on social media criticizing Republican lawmakers and former President Donald Trump.

On February 3, 2026, Jayapal wrote: “Republicans are saying that Democrats don’t care about women and girls — but they’re also mad that we are still talking about the Epstein Files. This is a massive cover-up, and their hypocrisy is absolutely staggering.”

Continuing her criticism on February 4, 2026, Jayapal stated: “Trump and Republicans are working for one group of people right now — billionaires. Instead of introducing ludicrous legislation to pretend they’re trying to balance the budget, they should be working to serve their constituents — not the President and his billionaire buddies.”

Later that same day, she addressed rhetoric surrounding transgender individuals: “The way that my Republican colleagues speak about trans people is absolutely despicable. Their rhetoric is dangerous and puts the lives of trans people in jeopardy.”

Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017. Before her time in Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965, Jayapal resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
