Rep. Pramila Jayapal, U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has voiced concerns over recent legislative and military developments through a series of posts on her official social media account.

On March 14, 2026, Jayapal criticized the SAVE America Act, stating: “The SAVE America Act requires voters to have proof of citizenship with them to vote — not just your driver’s license, but a passport or birth certificate. This is a Republican attempt at voter suppression — plain and simple.”

A day later, on March 15, she addressed military spending and accountability: “The Pentagon has never passed an audit. And yet we keep giving them more and more money each year. We want a department that is a department of peace, not a department that goes to war to pad the pockets of for profit defense contractors.”

On March 16, Jayapal highlighted the impact of conflict in Iran by emphasizing underrepresented perspectives: “One thing we are really missing in the coverage of Iran is the voices of the people of the region that have been dragged into this war: the grieving mothers of the 170+ mostly children killed in the US strike on the girls school and the families of the more than 2,000 people in”

Jayapal succeeded Jim McDermott as representative for Washington’s 7th district after serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
