Rep. Pramila Jayapal, U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has recently posted a series of tweets addressing federal spending, Congressional hearings, and international humanitarian crises.

On May 12, 2026, Jayapal criticized a significant allocation of funds by stating, “$1 billion for a ballroom… because that’ll fix things.”

The following day, on May 13, she addressed recent Congressional activity with the post: “Instead of addressing the systematic dilution of the Black vote or Trump’s unconstitutional war, Republicans held another anti-Muslim hearing to distract from Trump’s disregard for the Constitution. I will take no part in this bigotry.”

Later on May 13, Jayapal highlighted the crisis in Sudan by writing: “The ongoing civil war in Sudan is one of the worst humanitarian crises the world has ever seen – more than 400,000 people have been killed, over 14 million forcibly displaced, and there is catastrophic hunger. I’m calling on my colleagues to act urgently to end this war.”

Jayapal succeeded Jim McDermott as representative for Washington’s 7th district and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
