U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, used her social media platform over several days in September 2025 to express concerns about the Supreme Court, public health policies, and civil liberties under former President Donald Trump.

On September 6, Jayapal posted criticism of the Supreme Court’s recent decisions: “We are on the brink of a constitutional crisis — partially because we have a Supreme Court that keeps letting Trump overstep his authority. They are taking away power from lower courts, centralizing it at the highest level, and then handing it to a wannabe dictator.”

The following day, she addressed public health issues related to COVID-19 vaccines: “Good. The COVID vaccine is safe and effective, yet RFK Jr. and Trump are pushing anti-science conspiracy theories. Glad to see my state stepping up and keeping our residents healthy.”

Later on September 7, Jayapal commented on reported government actions regarding free speech: “Trump’s government is one that arrests a student for writing an op-ed, restricts the speech of the country’s visitors, and detains journalists for covering protests. That doesn’t sound like free speech in a democracy. It sounds like a dictatorship.”

Pramila Jayapal has been an active member of Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965, she resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
