U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, posted a series of statements on July 31, 2025, addressing issues ranging from domestic politics to international humanitarian crises.

In her first post at 14:54 UTC, Jayapal criticized Texas Republicans for their redistricting efforts. She wrote, “Texas Republicans, at Trump’s request, are redrawing their Congressional district lines to steal FIVE additional seats. They’re undoing democracy to keep themselves in power.”

Later that day at 17:14 UTC, Jayapal turned her attention to the crisis in Sudan. She stated, “Sudan is the site of the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. 12+ million people have been displaced, hundreds of thousands are facing malnutrition, and a brutal civil war is ongoing. The U.S. must take action to move aid into Sudan and support a peaceful democratic transition.”

At 18:03 UTC on the same day, Jayapal addressed comments made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding conditions in Gaza. She said, “Benjamin Netanyahu said ‘there is no starvation in Gaza.’ He is lying. Children are dying of malnutrition and people are being killed by the IDF as they wait for food. Feed Gaza now.”

Jayapal has served as a member of Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
