Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has used her social media platform to express concerns about the actions of former President Donald Trump and his administration, as well as issues related to law enforcement accountability.
On January 9, 2026, Jayapal posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Trump and his administration’s lies are not only an immediate threat to the American people, they are a threat to our democracy and trust in government. Republicans must stand up to this lawlessness.”
Later that day, she shared an analysis from another commentator, writing on January 9, 2026: “Important analysis from @GrahamDavidA: ‘A justice system depends on the idea that laws and enforcement are reasonably consistent and predictable, but Trump offers none of that….What Trump is doing in Venezuela and beyond isn’t enforcing norms and ensuring security. It’s”
In a subsequent post on January 9, 2026, Jayapal addressed public fears regarding immigration enforcement: “Americans are terrified that an ICE agent could shoot and kill them for no reason and with impunity. We need accountability & justice. Congress needs more oversight and there must be an independent investigation. The American people deserve better. This can never happen again.”
Jayapal has served in Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Her educational background includes degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
