U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, issued a series of tweets on January 15, 2026, criticizing the Trump administration over recent events and policies.

In her first tweet on January 15, Jayapal addressed the fatal shooting of Renee Good by ICE agents in Minneapolis: “Hundreds of millions of Americans have now seen how ICE shot and killed Renee Good in Minneapolis — but the Trump administration is still lying to us about what happened. No more lies. No more obstruction. We demand an independent investigation NOW.”

Later that day, she commented on the administration’s stance regarding food affordability simulations: “The Trump administration wants you to know that according to their 1,000+ simulations, you can get a full meal of a piece of chicken, a piece of broccoli, a corn tortilla, and one ~other thing~ for only $3! What a slap in the face to struggling working families.” This tweet came at 15:02 UTC.

At 15:42 UTC on the same day, Jayapal posted another message referencing former President Donald Trump’s intentions: “He wants to be a dictator. We won’t let him.”

Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017. She previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016 and resides in Seattle. Born in Chennai (then Madras State) in 1965, she is currently 57 years old. Jayapal earned her BA from Georgetown University in 1986 and later graduated from Northwestern University in 1990.
