U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on October 17, 2025, criticizing the actions of former President Donald Trump and his administration.
In her first post of the day, Jayapal stated: “Donald Trump is weaponizing the Department of Justice to go after his perceived political enemies. It’s authoritarian and undermines our justice system, and it must end.” (October 17, 2025)
Later that day, she commented on a report involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), writing: “This report is absolutely shocking. ICE does not have the authority to detain US citizens during immigration enforcement — full stop. The Trump administration is out of control, violating the rights of American citizens. They must be held accountable.” (October 17, 2025)
In a subsequent tweet, Jayapal promoted her podcast appearance with Ezra Levin from Indivisible Team: “NEW POD: I sat down with @IndivisibleTeam’s @ezralevin to discuss how the group has changed under Trump’s second term, why organizing and protesting matter, and how we can defeat authoritarianism. Watch below or listen wherever you get your podcasts!” (October 17, 2025)
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th congressional district since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and now residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
