U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, posted a series of tweets on January 14, 2026, addressing recent national issues and criticizing Republican policies.

In her first tweet at 16:26 UTC, Jayapal expressed distrust in the Trump administration’s ability to investigate the death of Renee Good by ICE. She wrote, “There is no world in which we can trust the Trump administration to conduct a fair, transparent investigation into how Renee Good was killed by ICE. Trump, Noem, and Vance have lied to our faces constantly. But we all know what we saw on video.”

Later that day at 18:41 UTC, Jayapal commented on former President Trump’s economic promises regarding manufacturing jobs. She stated, “On Trump’s ‘Liberation Day,’ he promised that his tariffs would bring manufacturing jobs back to America. But the U.S. has LOST manufacturing jobs in every single month since that announcement. Trump’s economy is bad for American workers.”

At 20:25 UTC on the same day, Jayapal criticized a Republican-led bill aimed at banning stock trading among members of Congress. She argued that it does not go far enough and benefits wealthier lawmakers. According to her post: “Republicans’ so-called stock trading ban bill is not what it seems — it is designed to let the wealthiest Members of Congress keep owning, buying, and trading stock. Our bipartisan consensus bill is a true ban that puts the interests of the American people first. Let’s pass it.”

Jayapal has served as a member of Congress for Washington’s 7th District since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
