Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has recently used her social media platform to criticize the Trump administration and Republican lawmakers on several issues, including government ethics, healthcare costs, and political rhetoric.
On November 20, 2025, Jayapal posted: “While doing absolutely NOTHING to lower costs, Trump’s administration is accepting expensive gifts and firing ethics officers who tell them not to. The most corrupt presidency in American history.”
Later that day, she addressed proposed legislation in another post: “The Big Bad Betrayal Bill will cost $3.4 TRILLION over the next ten years. Extending ACA tax credits would cost $350 billion over ten years — a fraction of the cost. Republicans would rather give tax breaks to billionaires than make health care affordable for American families.” The Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits have been a point of contention between parties regarding healthcare affordability.
In a subsequent tweet on November 20, Jayapal expressed concern about escalating political rhetoric: “A Republican state lawmaker from Arizona called for me to be hanged in September. Now, Trump is saying Democratic members of Congress should be hanged. This is not a joke. These calls for political violence are completely unacceptable and they must stop now.”
Jayapal’s statements come amid ongoing debates over government transparency and the direction of federal policy on taxation and healthcare.
Background information indicates that Pramila Jayapal succeeded Jim McDermott as representative for Washington’s 7th district in 2017 after serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
