U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, used her social media platform to comment on the State of the Union address and highlight concerns regarding the Trump administration’s handling of survivors linked to Jeffrey Epstein.
On February 24, 2026, Jayapal announced her guest for the evening, writing: “I’m honored to have Marijke Chartouni as my guest at tonight’s State of the Union. The Trump Administration has continually tried to intimidate her and other survivors, as well as cover-up the Epstein files. Tonight, he has to look them in the face.”
Later that night, she reiterated her criticism of former President Donald Trump and his administration with a direct message: “Tonight, Donald Trump has no choice but to acknowledge the Epstein survivors that him and his administration have disrespected at every turn. It’s time to end this cover up. We won’t stop pushing for justice and real accountability.”
In a third post during the State of the Union broadcast on February 25, Jayapal commented on anticipated remarks from Trump about economic conditions and health care policy: “If you’re tuning into the State of the Union tonight, expect to hear a bunch of lies from Donald Trump. He’ll claim the economy is doing great. Here’s the truth: He’s raised the cost of everything with his reckless tariffs and kicked millions of Americans off of health care.”
Pramila Jayapal began serving in Congress after replacing Jim McDermott in 2017. Before joining Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras), India in 1965, Jayapal currently resides in Seattle. She earned her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in 1986 and later graduated from Northwestern University in 1990.
