U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, recently posted a series of statements on her social media account addressing investigations related to the Epstein files, her decision regarding the State of the Union, and concerns about conditions in immigration detention.
On February 22, 2026, Jayapal wrote: “The Trump Administration is spending more time investigating the people who are reading the Epstein files than the people who are implicated in the Epstein files.”
The following day, she announced her plans for the State of the Union address: “While I will not be attending Trump’s State of the Union this year, I’m glad to be hosting Marijke Chartouni to ensure that survivors of Epstein’s horrific abuse are in the room as Trump speaks. The fight for truth will not end until all those responsible are held accountable.” This statement was posted on February 23, 2026.
Later that same day, Jayapal called attention to conditions at an immigration detention facility: “‘These are repeated acts of dehumanization.’ I am demanding that ICE immediately review Rodney Taylor’s request for release. What he and others are experiencing in detention is absolutely horrifying.”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She succeeded Jim McDermott in Congress and resides in Seattle. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras), India, in 1965, she is currently 57 years old. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
