U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, has posted a series of tweets on July 16, 2025, criticizing former President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers for actions she describes as corrupt and detrimental to Americans.

In a tweet at 18:48 UTC, Jayapal stated: “Corruption is at the heart of everything Trump and Republicans do. When they kicked 17 million Americans off their health care, what was it for? A massive tax break for billionaires. It’s a giant betrayal of the people.”

Later that evening at 20:16 UTC, she wrote: “Trump’s State Department is firing dedicated and talented civil servants, all to meet an arbitrary number. This is not based on merit, or need, or even reducing the deficit — and will cost lives.”

At 21:11 UTC the same day, Jayapal further commented: “Wasting taxpayer money. Wasting food for starving kids. Who exactly is this supposed to be helping?”

Pramila Jayapal has served in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and now residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
