U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, used her social media platform on September 2, 2025, to criticize the Trump administration on several fronts, including immigration detention practices, presidential finances, and environmental policy.
In a post published at 17:25 UTC, Jayapal stated: “The 13th detained person has died in ICE custody since Trump took office. This is what happens when immigrant incarceration becomes a profit-making entity instead of ensuring people’s health and safety. That’s why I have led the Dignity for Detained Immigrants Act since coming” (September 2, 2025).
Later that day at 18:34 UTC, she commented on alleged financial gains by former President Trump during his tenure: “Yes, you read that correctly: FIVE. BILLION. DOLLARS. Trump is using the presidency to get rich while working folks struggle. He’s only thinking about his own interests — it’s corruption beyond belief.” (September 2, 2025).
In another post at 20:17 UTC the same day, Jayapal criticized the Department of Energy under Trump for its approach to climate change reporting: “Trump’s Department of Energy made up a “report” on climate change — and it’s full of lies. Their real objective? Continuing to sell out our environment, air, and water to Big Oil billionaires. We’re fighting back.” (September 2, 2025).
Pramila Jayapal was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. She began her congressional service after replacing Jim McDermott in Washington’s 7th district and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
