Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has raised concerns over several actions by former President Donald Trump and his administration in a series of posts on her social media account.

On August 13, 2025, Jayapal criticized the lack of response from the administration regarding the detention of U.S. citizens during immigration raids. She wrote, “This is OUTRAGEOUS. I wrote to the administration in February demanding information about U.S. Citizens who have been detained during raids, and I still haven’t received a response. Trump and ICE are out of control. We need answers.”

Later that day, she commented on the release of an individual convicted in connection with Jeffrey Epstein, questioning whether there was an exchange involved for this action by Trump. Jayapal stated on August 13, “This is corruption of the highest level. What did Trump get in return for this outrageous favor? This woman was convicted of being a sex offender and grooming underage girls for Epstein to assault. Release the Epstein files and everything related to this unprecedented release”.

On August 14, Jayapal referenced findings from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) about recent Republican-backed legislation affecting tax policy. She posted, “ICYMI: According to the nonpartisan CBO, Trump and Republicans’ Big Bad Betrayal Law will make the rich even richer and the poor even poorer. They are once again screwing over working people to give a tax break to their billionaire buddies.”

Jayapal has served as Washington’s 7th District representative since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017 after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, she holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
