U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, has used her social media platform to criticize recent actions by former President Donald Trump and his administration, focusing on judicial decisions, government spending, and priorities.

On August 25, 2025, Jayapal highlighted a federal court decision regarding the removal of an individual from the United States. She wrote: “UPDATE: A Judge said the Trump administration is ‘absolutely forbidden’ from removing ‘Mr. Abrego Garcia from the continental United States.’ Trump’s lawyer responded with: ‘Your honor, yes, we certainly understand that.'” (August 25, 2025).

The following day, Jayapal addressed what she described as excessive costs associated with what she termed “Trump’s authoritarian DC takeover.” In her post dated August 26, 2025, she stated: “Trump’s authoritarian DC takeover has cost more than $15 MILLION. How could we better spend that taxpayer money? – 1,558 public housing units – 1,172 Head Start slots – VA medical care for 882 veterans – Health care for 5,219 low-income children What an absolute disgrace.”

Later that same day on August 26, Jayapal commented on Donald Trump’s focus on cultural issues rather than economic ones affecting Americans. She posted: “You’re struggling to make ends meet, put food on the table, and afford basic health care. Donald Trump is focused on Cracker Barrel’s new logo. Ridiculous and insulting. He’s not thinking about your needs.”

Pramila Jayapal has served in Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in what was then Madras State in India in 1965 and now residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
