U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, recently used her social media platform to criticize the Trump administration and highlight concerns about public health and economic policy.
On July 19, 2025, Jayapal attributed a surge in measles cases to misinformation campaigns led by former President Donald Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., stating, “Thanks to Trump and RFK Jr.’s misinformation and vaccine conspiracy theories, the United States has reached its highest annual measles case tally in 33 YEARS. People will die. We must follow the science and keep our communities safe and healthy.”
The following day, she voiced opposition to proposed cuts to affordable housing programs. In a tweet dated July 20, 2025, Jayapal wrote: “As the Trump Administration continues to push prices sky high, we are saying HELL NO to cuts to affordable housing programs. Hell no to more Americans living on the street. Hell no to the cruelty and the greed.”
Later that same day, Jayapal addressed economic pressures in Seattle linked to what she termed “Trumpflation,” warning of further impact from tariffs enacted under Trump’s policies. She posted on July 20: “Trumpflation is hitting Seattle hard — and will only get worse with Trump’s reckless tariffs. We deserve better. Democrats are fighting to lower your costs.”
Pramila Jayapal was born in Chennai (formerly Madras), India in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle at age 57. Before entering Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 through 2016.
She holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
Since replacing Jim McDermott as representative for Washington’s 7th district in January 2017,
Jayapal has been an active voice on issues related to public health policy,
affordable housing,
and economic inequality.
