Rep. Pramila Jayapal, U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, used her social media platform on November 12, 2025, to criticize the Trump Administration’s approach to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and recent government funding negotiations.
In a post published at 16:54 UTC, Jayapal stated, “The Trump Administration is doing everything in its power to block SNAP payments from families who rely on them to keep food on the table. Tax breaks for the rich, nothing for the hungry. That is Trump’s playbook.”
Later that day at 18:11 UTC, she highlighted the story of a constituent named Ned, writing, “Meet Ned — a constituent who volunteers at the White Center Food Bank and is a SNAP recipient. Trump is actively working to withhold SNAP funding — forcing families to food banks across the country.”
At 18:53 UTC, Jayapal addressed Senate Democrats’ actions during recent shutdown negotiations. She posted, “Senate Democrats should not have caved. Americans understand that this was a Republican Shutdown and that we were fighting to protect health care for millions of working families. It was a righteous fight that we could have won, and it will continue.”
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
