U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, used her social media platform on December 9, 2025, to highlight her recent efforts regarding immigration policies and critique former President Donald Trump’s approach to economic issues.
In a post made at 18:18 UTC on December 9, Jayapal wrote: “ICYMI: Last week, I hosted a Shadow Hearing to expose the Trump administration’s horrific immigrant detention abuses. The public deserves to know what’s happening inside these facilities. I’m fighting for the truth.”
Later that day, at 19:34 UTC, she criticized current Republican immigration strategies by stating: “Trump and Republicans are doing everything in their power to shut down legal pathways for immigration — and are now even going after dual citizens! These short-sighted and xenophobic policies are only going to hurt our communities and our economy.”
At 21:19 UTC on the same day, Jayapal commented on Trump’s assessment of his economic record, posting: “Trump gives his economy an “A+++++” and says “don’t be dramatic” when a reporter suggests that families might be worried about buying holiday presents and budgeting for next year. He couldn’t care less about Americans that are struggling.”
Jayapal has served in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott and previously held a seat in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Her academic background includes degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
