U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on social media criticizing former President Donald Trump and celebrating both her guests at the State of the Union and local Olympic athletes.
On February 25, 2026, Jayapal wrote: “Trump does not respect the rule of law, the Constitution, or the American people. That’s why I didn’t attend his nearly two hours of lies.”
The following day, she acknowledged two individuals for their participation in official events: “Thank you, Marijke Chartouni and Lauren Hersh, for being my guests at yesterday’s State of the Union and People’s State of the Union. Despite Trump’s lies, you stood up for the truth. I’m so proud to be in this fight with you.” This post was published on February 26, 2026.
Later that same day, Jayapal expressed support for athletes from Seattle competing at the Olympics: “I am SO proud of the incredible Seattle Torrent players — Hilary Knight, Cayla Barnes, Alex Carpenter, and Hannah Bilka — on Team USA who brought home gold at the Olympics!! Can’t wait to cheer you all on at Climate Pledge this season!”
Pramila Jayapal has served as a member of Congress representing Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. She previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and now residing in Seattle, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
