U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, has criticized former President Donald Trump and House Republicans in a series of tweets posted on November 7, 2025. Her posts focused on the suspension of SNAP benefits and the ongoing government shutdown.
In her first tweet at 16:02 UTC, Jayapal wrote, “In the 61 year history of SNAP, the program has never missed payments — until now, because of Donald Trump. Trump could send out SNAP benefits today. Multiple judges have ordered him to, and the government has the money. But he’s still refusing. Fully fund SNAP now.”
Later that day at 16:49 UTC, she addressed House Republicans and Speaker Mike Johnson: “House Republicans simply don’t want to work anymore. Mike Johnson sent the House home more than six weeks ago. Democrats have been in D.C., ready to negotiate an end to this Republican Shutdown that saves health care for the American people. Where the hell are Republicans?”
At 17:25 UTC, Jayapal continued her criticism of former President Trump by stating, “Donald Trump simply does not care that Americans can’t afford to put food on the table, pay rent, or go to the doctor.”
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She succeeded Jim McDermott as U.S. Representative and is currently based in Seattle. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965, Jayapal graduated from Georgetown University with a bachelor’s degree and later earned a degree from Northwestern University.
Her recent statements come amid heightened political tensions over federal funding and social programs such as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), which provides food assistance to millions of Americans.
