U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on August 3 and 4, 2025, criticizing former President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers for their proposed rescissions package.

In her first post on August 3, Jayapal stated, “Trump’s Big Bad Betrayal will have devastating impacts on our community. Don’t just take my word for it — here are real people who will be hurt. https://t.co/ftLKeA9Pae”.

Shortly after, she shared another tweet containing only a link: “https://t.co/wj9m3Xo7BX”.

On August 4, Jayapal continued her criticism of the legislative proposal with a third tweet: “Trump and Republicans’ rescissions package is not only devastating for foreign aid and public broadcasting — it completely undermines our checks and balances. I sat down with @KUOW to discuss what it all means. Listen here: https://t.co/nOgF977aFr”.

Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th district in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2017, succeeding Jim McDermott. Before her time in Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965, Jayapal is currently based in Seattle. She holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA, 1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
