U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district, used her social media account on January 8, 2026, to criticize former President Donald Trump’s proposed increase in defense spending and to comment on a recent ICE-involved shooting in Minneapolis.
On January 8, 2026, Jayapal posted: “Trump wants a $600 BILLION increase in Defense spending. Meanwhile, American families are struggling to put food on the table or afford health care. HELL NO.”
Later that day, she addressed the ICE shooting incident in Minneapolis. In her post at 14:36 UTC, she wrote: “Watch this detailed @nytimes analysis of yesterday’s ICE shooting in Minneapolis — it completely disproves Trump and Republicans’ lies about this killing. Renee Good was shot and killed by ICE for no reason.”
At 16:30 UTC on the same day, Jayapal referenced her participation in a House Judiciary Committee session: “Just now in @HouseJudiciary, I broke down the video that shows ICE shooting and killing Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis — proving that Trump and Noem lied about what happened. We will continue fighting for truth, justice, and accountability.”
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. She previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (then Madras State) in 1965, Jayapal currently resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
