U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on her official X (formerly Twitter) account criticizing former President Donald Trump’s cuts to global health and research programs.
On July 20, 2025, Jayapal wrote, “Release ALL of the files.”
The following day, she addressed concerns over international health funding by stating, “Trump’s cuts to global health programs could cause 14 MILLION preventable deaths. This is spending that makes the United States stronger, our people safer, and the world healthier. And Trump is completely destroying it.” This post was published on July 21, 2025.
Later that same day, Jayapal continued her criticism regarding domestic research investment: “Trump’s cuts to health research will mean fewer breakthroughs and cures and more dead Americans. He is costing our communities countless lives.”
Pramila Jayapal has served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. She previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
Her recent posts come amid ongoing national debates about federal funding priorities for public health and scientific research.
